Interdisciplinary Adult Treatment – When Is Orthodontics the Best Choice? | Dr. Cezare Luzi

More and more adults are referred daily to orthodontic specialists for interdisciplinary care. Inter-disciplinary therapy can improve the quality of the final treatment outcome by the synergy of different disciplines working consecutively with a strict coordination.

Orthodontic treatment is always more requested in interdisciplinary care as it can allow to reach higher standards of results thanks to the improvement of the condition of the periodontal tissues and the possibility of using less destructive restorative procedures.

By aligning and leveling the arches, repositioning the periodontal tissues, distributing the spaces through tooth movement, the orthodontist enhances the work of the prosthodontist and the implantologist to realize a better rehabilitation, both from a functional and an esthetic perspective.

Furthermore, as a key factor to understand the potential benefits of adult orthodontics, by means of dental movements it is possible to reduce or eliminate the load of restorative care and the relative biologic and economical costs for the patient.

The course will highlight the characteristics of an adult patient and the treatment goals, the potential of orthodontics to make implantology possible and prosthodontics less invasive, and finally the potential to eliminate prosthetic need just by using a comprehensive orthodontic treatment.
